...riding my ass when I am going the speed-limit in my neighborhood on an icy street is not going to motivate me to drive faster, especially when my wife and kid are in the car. Oh, and punching it once I pulled into the driveway was super-classy in your Matrix.
Remember, them ditches love assholes.

No matter the conditions, riding my ass when I'm going the speed limit (or any speed) is never going to make me go any faster. Never. Even when I'm doing a bit of extended passing in a left lane. Just keep a nice safe distance and give me a little flash and I'll happily slide into the next open slot.

I feel your pain.. My idiot neighbor who never DOESNT park on the line in his honda odyssey was recently seen in a new Crew cab F150... Pray for me.

They have made it illegal in a lot of places to signal to someone with your high beams to move over... yeah, it's stupid. Around here people basically give someone a 10 count, then start creeping up on their ass to signal they want them to move. Follow distance tickets are less than "road rage" tickets that you can get from flashing your headlights.
I just don't understand why people think them rear ending someone makes sense rather than just waiting or passing. Now, if you are puttering along at the speed limit and try to prevent me from passing or do that idiotic slow down and try to block everyone because one person made you mad, expect loud noises as I pass.

O.o
Just curious — where these laws exist, how are they enforced (i.e. will they let a person keeping a distance who delivers a single flash go if that's where it stops but will write a ticket for incessant flashing)?
Even still, if I'm in the left for an extended period while passing a group of so-so spaced cars, I'm fairly vigilant when it comes to checking my rear view mirror to see if someone is coming up faster than me. I just have no tolerance for people riding the ass of someone else; it's asinine, dangerous, and asininely dangerous all put together.

Any signaling another vehicle in any situation other than to warn them of a hazard via the horn can be considered road rage. So if you blip your high beams, wave your arms, make a funny face, pretty much anything, they can give you a ticket. The "hazard" is up to the cop to determine if it's valid or not...
I saw a guy get a $550 ticket for flashing his headlights to warn people about a dead deer on the road because the officer said it was too close to where he was doing a speed trap and it made people slow down. Yeah, it's that bad.

So cops, who are supposed to make the roads safer, are actively enforcing the letter v. the spirit of a law to boost revenue despite the fact that it clearly breeds more dangerous driving?
Sometimes I just have no words...

If they were there to make roads safer, they wouldn't be enforcing speed limits and would be enforcing lane rules, yield rules, etc. There are very few places left that it's about safety and not about revenue.

Follow up — are there not constitutional (1st amendment) problems with that?

I'm sure there are, but in states like the west coast, they tend to favor protectionism over individual rights in court.... very hard to make it far enough and not go broke to be proven right. For instance in Oregon they even have laws that it is illegal to collect rain water without a permit, and it stands because no one can afford to fight the government on it.
Currently at the federal level they can't even get the courts to stand by clear cut 1st and 4th Amendment rulings... and things are even more political at local court levels.
